Somerville Primary School Supersizes Closet Cleanout Fundraising Collection
Somerville Primary School has smashed their Closet Cleanout target with a collection weighing in at 850kg - more than 250kg more than their previous collection in 2017 (see case study here)! With less than 200 families, this is a great result and fundraising coordinator, Lisa said she is very proud of their group this year:
"The fundraising committee teamed up with the foundation grades this time" she explained. "As the foundation were learning all about Reduce, Reuse & Recycle in class, this was a perfect opportunity for the kids to help and also see the mountains of clothes that are being reused."
The committee advertised the drive on the parents Facebook page like last time, and also in the school newsletter at the start of the term to make sure everyone would save any unwanted clothing. Regular updates and words of encouragement were posted to the page and included in newsletters leading up to the collection date.
Four weeks before the collection date the bags were sent out with a cover note using the template provided by Closet Cleanout. Lisa said lots of families asked their friends and family to contribute which really helped boost their overall collection.
"We have a very supportive community and it'll now be our mission to smash this weight for our next collection in October. Parents say that they love being able to help out both the Red Nose and the school with things they would be taking to the op shop anyway. I’m so glad we have teamed up with you and look forward to continuing working together" she finished.
